General hosting FAQ

How do I order a game server?

Open the Shop, select the game-server product, choose the available plan options, and complete checkout. Contact us first when you need help deciding on resources or when the game is not listed.

Ordering and billing
Does the shop open in the same tab?

Yes. Shop buttons navigate directly from this website to the Down Side Hosting shop in the same browser tab.

Ordering and billing
Can I upgrade later?

Contact support when your player count, world, or mod collection grows. Upgrade options depend on the current plan and available server capacity.

Ordering and billing
How fast will my server be ready?

Setup time depends on the game, payment status, required files, and whether custom work is needed. Standard deployments are simpler than world migrations or unusual modded setups.

Server setup
Can I move an existing world or save?

Usually, yes. Use the panel file manager or SFTP to upload compatible world and save files. Ask for help before moving data when the game has a special folder structure or version requirement.

Server setup
Can I use mods, plugins, or workshop content?

Many supported games allow mods, plugins, or workshop collections. Compatibility and resource needs depend on the game, server version, and content being installed.

Server setup
What can I do in the control panel?

Typical tools include start, stop, restart, live console, file management, SFTP, backups, schedules, resource graphs, startup settings, and subuser permissions. Some options vary by plan or game.

Management panel
Can another administrator access my server?

Subusers can be added with selected permissions, allowing trusted staff to manage specific actions without sharing the primary account.

Management panel
Are backups automatic?

Backup tools are available, but the exact schedule and limits depend on the plan and configuration. Create a backup before upgrades, mod changes, or major world edits.

Management panel
How much RAM do I need?

Memory depends on the game, players, world size, plugins, mods, and server settings. Send those details for a better recommendation instead of choosing only by player count.

Performance
Will adding mods require a larger plan?

Often, yes. Large modpacks, extensive workshop collections, scripted plugins, and bigger worlds can increase memory, CPU, and storage requirements.

Performance
How can I tell when an upgrade is needed?

Watch the panel’s resource graphs, console warnings, tick rate or simulation behavior, loading delays, and player reports. Consistent resource limits or performance issues may indicate tuning or an upgrade is needed.

How do I contact support?

Email support@downsidehosting.us or join the Down Side Hosting Discord. Include the server game, what changed, relevant error messages, and what troubleshooting you already tried.

Support
Do you provide a business phone number?

No. Support and pre-sales communication are handled through email and Discord so details, screenshots, logs, and instructions can be kept together.

Support
Can you host a game that is not listed?

Possibly. Send the game name, dedicated server requirements, operating-system requirement, player count, and any mods or integrations. We can review whether it fits the current platform.
